SBI has introduced a new card, NAV-eCash, onboard India's largest Naval Aircraft Carrier, INS Vikramaditya, as part of the Digital India drive. The Card was launched by our MD (R&DB), Shri C. S. Setty & Vice Admiral R. Harikumar, FOC-in-C of the Western Naval Command. The NAV- eCash Card will obviate the difficulties faced by personnel onboard in handling physical cash during deployment of the ship on high seas, said SBI via its Twitter handle. With its dual-chip technology, the NAV-eCash Card will allow both online and offline transactions.

The card will eliminate the problems experienced by employees onboard in managing physical cash during the ship's operation at sea, according to a statement from the bank. Traditional payment methods are hampered by the infrastructure on naval ships, especially while the ship is at sea and has no access to the internet. "The concept will be replicated at other naval ships and various defence establishments for creating a secured, convenient and sustainable payment ecosystem," CS Setty, MD (Retail & Digital Banking), SBI said.
The State Bank of India (SBI), a Fortune 500 company, is an Indian multinational banking and financial services legislative entity with its headquarters in Mumbai. SBI has a strong history and legacy dating back over 200 years, making it the most trusted bank among Indians. SBI, India's largest bank, provides over 45 crore customers thru a massive array of over 22,000 branches, 62617 ATMs/ADWMs, and 71,968 BC outlets.
