SBI UPI Services Unavailable on September 4 for Maintenance: Check Timing & Alternative Payment Options
State Bank of India (SBI) customers may experience a brief interruption in UPI services during the early hours of September 4, 2026. The bank has scheduled maintenance work that could affect UPI transactions linked to SBI accounts for 45 minutes.
The temporary disruption is scheduled from 12:15 am to 1:00 am on September 4. Customers planning important payments during this period may want to complete them in advance or keep an alternative payment method available.
SBI UPI Services to Remain Temporarily Unavailable on September 4
SBI has announced that its UPI services may be affected while scheduled maintenance work is carried out. During the maintenance period, customers could face difficulties sending or receiving money through UPI using an SBI-linked bank account.

The disruption may affect transactions made through different UPI applications, as the issue relates to the SBI banking system linked to the customer's account. The bank has indicated that the maintenance activity could be completed before the scheduled deadline.
While the timing has been chosen during late-night hours, customers who depend entirely on UPI for payments may still face inconvenience.
SBI Advises Customers to Use UPI Lite
To reduce the impact of the temporary service disruption, SBI has suggested that customers use UPI Lite for eligible small-value transactions. UPI Lite allows users to keep a limited amount of money available for smaller digital payments. Once funds have been added to the UPI Lite balance, eligible transactions can be completed without relying on the regular UPI process for every payment.
Customers planning to use this facility during the SBI maintenance period should ensure that UPI Lite has been activated and funded before the outage begins. Under the applicable limits, individual UPI Lite transactions can be made for up to Rs 1,000, while the maximum balance permitted is Rs 5,000.
However, UPI Lite may not be suitable for larger transfers or payments exceeding the permitted transaction limit.
SBI UPI Transaction Rules: Daily and Higher Limits for Select Payments
The scheduled maintenance is a temporary technical interruption and does not change SBI's existing UPI transaction rules. SBI customers can generally make up to 20 person-to-person UPI transactions in a day, subject to the applicable value limits. For regular UPI transactions, the standard daily transaction limit is Rs 1,00,000.
Certain categories of payments may have higher limits. Eligible transactions involving areas such as insurance, capital markets, tax payments, hospitals and educational institutions can be subject to enhanced limits under the applicable UPI rules.
What SBI Customers Should Do Before UPI Outage
Customers expecting to make an important payment around midnight should avoid waiting until the maintenance period. Completing urgent transactions before 12:15 am on September 4 could help prevent payment failures.
Those making small purchases can consider adding money to UPI Lite before the scheduled downtime. Customers may also keep other payment options, such as a debit card, net banking facility or another bank account, ready in case they need to make an urgent transaction.
The interruption is expected to last only 45 minutes, from 12:15 am to 1:00 am. Customers are likely to be able to resume normal UPI transactions once SBI completes the scheduled maintenance work.
