SC Dismisses AGR Review Petition Of Telecom Companies'
The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed telecom companies' plea concerning AGR review. Further the apex bank said that these companies are free to file curative petition against the review petition.
Following today's order, Airtel and Vodafone Idea are left with just a week for paying Rs. 92000 crore in dues, including interest and penalty amount by January 23.
The bench with Justice Arun Mishra at the helm said that telecom companies will have to clear up the dues.
"We allow the appeals of the DoT... The gross revenue will prevail as defined as gross revenue", said the court citing no further exercise should take place in connection with the re-calculations regarding the dues.
In November, telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told Parliament that telecom companies owe Rs. 1.47 lakh crore to the government in previous statutory dues.
