As India is continuously registering over 3 lakh cases per day many of the nations including the US, UK, Kuwait, France and Canada have banned flights from India, citing COVID-19 cases and the "double mutant" virus being found in the country. And the latest to join the list are countries such as Iran, Kuwait, Indonesia and UAE.

 

Here are provided the different restrictions imposed on travellers from India to these nations:

From Sunday midnight, Iran has decided to ban travellers from India as well as Pakishtan. "The Indian coronavirus is a new threat we face. The Indian virus is more dangerous that the English and Brazilian variants," Iran President Hassan Rouhani said.

Kuwait:

Flights from India are banned to Kuwait amid worsening Covid 19 situation in the country. The ban shall be effective from April 24, 2021. As per a tweet, all those arriving from India either directly or via another country will be barred from coming back to Kuwait if they have not spent atleast 14 days out of India. Freight flights will continue to operate.

Amid unprecedented rise of Covid 19 in India, all of the flights have been banned from April 24 for 10 days excepts cargo flights. These regulations can further be extended. Those exempted from this ban include UAE citizens, diplomatic missions appointed by the countries, official delegations, those on businessmen-chartered flights and those having the golden residency.

The Indonesian government has taken a decision to not issue visas to any of the foreigners who have been in India for the past 14 days to curb the spread of Covid 19. Indonesians from India will be allowed to enter the country but will need to stick to strict safety protocols. The decision to this effect has been taken after a chartered plan has entered Indonesia from Chennai with 12 onboard out of 129 passengers tested positive for Covid 19.

France:

This nation has also banned flights from India, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and South Africa. People entering the nation from these 5 nations will need to go through a mandatory antigen test on their arrival as well as a pre-boarding RT-PCR test.

"Because of the current situation in India, even fully vaccinated travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to India. If you must travel to India, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travelers should wear a mask, stay 6 feet from others, avoid crowds and wash their hands", said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in its statement. There has been offered an advisory asking the people of the US to not travel to India.

The UK has added India to its 'red list'. So this bars all travel from the country and also makes 10-day hotel quarantine for all UK and Irish citizens coming back from India.

There has been announced a reduction in flights from nations such as India. PM Scott Morrison said, "We will also be limiting the departure exceptions for Australians travelling to high-risk countries like India. As time goes on and the pandemic continues to rage, there are countries that are frankly of greater risk than others."

Hong Kong

From April 20 to May 2, Hong Kong has suspended foreign flights from India, Pakistan and the PhilippinesThe authorities concerned decided to ban flights from India and Vistara flights on the Mumbai-Hong Kong routes after 50 passengers tested positive for the virus on arrival.

The country is on a "heightened alert" and has restricted all long term pass holders as well as short term visitors who have travelled to India within the last 14 days from entry or transit via Singapore from April 24.

Other than this, people who recently travelled to India and have not completed the 14-day stay-home notice (SHN) by April 22 midnight will have to complete the additional seven-day SHN at a dedicated facility rather than their homes.

In April, for a period of 30 days, Canadian government banned international flights from India and Pakistan. The Health Minister Patty Hajdu mentioned that half the people who are testing positive after arriving in Canada via flights came from India.

Italy has also imposed restrictions on travel from India to avoid the spread of a COVID-19 variant. Italy's Health Minister Roberto Speranza said on Twitter he had signed an order barring foreign travellers who have been in India in the past 14 days from entering the country.

The Netherlands has said it is suspending all passenger flights arriving from India starting Monday owing to coronavirus surge in the country."A flight ban will take effect for passenger flights from India at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 26... The flight ban will be in place until at least 00:01 a.m. on May 1," Sputnik quoted Dutch Aviation Ministry's statement.

Thailand on Monday joined a long list of countries that barred the entry of Indians. The Royal Thai New Delhi in a statement said certificates of entry (COE) issued to non-Thai nationals scheduled to enter from India were cancelled.

The embassy also said that issuance of COEs for non-Thai nationals who would be arriving in Thailand from India from May 1 would be suspended until further notice
