Indian Railways is preparing to expand its Vande Bharat Sleeper network with a second overnight service and the proposed route could connect Delhi with Varanasi. The train is expected to pass through Kanpur and Prayagraj, giving passengers on one of the country's busy rail corridors a new overnight travel option.

The proposed Delhi-Varanasi service has not yet been officially notified by the Railway Board. The service is expected to become the second Vande Bharat Sleeper train planned by Indian Railways. The first sleeper service has been associated with the Howrah-Kamakhya route.

Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper: Check Expected Departure And Arrival Timings

The proposed sleeper train is expected to operate overnight, allowing passengers to leave their starting city in the evening and arrive at the destination early the next morning. As per the reported schedule, the train could depart from Varanasi Cantt at 9:20 pm. It is expected to reach Prayagraj at around 10:45 pm and then arrive at Kanpur Central at approximately 12:35 am. The train could reach New Delhi at around 5 am.

On the return journey, the proposed service could leave New Delhi at 9:20 pm and reach Varanasi at about 5 am the following day. The timings, however, are not final. Indian Railways is yet to issue the official timetable and the schedule could change depending on operational requirements.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Coach Composition

Second Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is expected to have 16 coaches with accommodation for around 823 passengers. The reported composition is 11 AC 3-tier coaches, 4 AC 2-tier coaches & 1 First AC coach. The final coach composition will be confirmed by Indian Railways when details of the service are officially announced.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Expected To Run At Up To 160 Kmph

The proposed second Vande Bharat Sleeper could operate at speeds ranging from 130 kmph to 160 kmph. The actual speed will depend on track conditions, signalling, route capacity and the clearances available on the corridor. The final journey time will also depend on the number of stoppages and the timetable approved by the Railway Board.

Before the service begins regular operations, trial runs and other operational checks will be important. Since this is a sleeper service, factors such as ride quality, passenger comfort and safety will also need to be assessed for overnight journeys.

The sleeper version is expected to carry several modern features associated with the Vande Bharat platform. These may include upgraded interiors, automatic doors, passenger information systems, improved acceleration and enhanced safety arrangements.

The exact facilities for the Delhi-Varanasi train are yet to be officially confirmed. Therefore, passengers will have to wait for the final trainset and Railway Board notification for details of the onboard services.
