Senior Citizens Can Secure Pensions With Digital 'Life Certificates'; Submission Window Opens

The submission window for 'life certificates' or Jeevan Pramaan Patra for senior citizens officially opened on Wednesday, November 1. This important process ensures that pensioners receive their monthly share and avoid the suspension of their pensions. Here's what you need to know about this crucial step for retirees.

The submission process, which started for super senior citizens in October, is now available for all eligible pensioners. These life certificates must be submitted to pension-disbursing authorities (PDAs), which include banks and post offices. Failure to comply with this requirement could lead to the suspension of pensions, making it essential for all pensioners to submit their life certificates on time.

Senior Citizens

Pensioners have two convenient options for submitting their life certificates: they can either visit the pension-disbursing authorities in person or utilize the user-friendly online submission method. The Jeevan Pramaan Patra is valid for 12 months from the date of the last submission.

To streamline the submission process and make it more accessible, various avenues have been made available to pensioners, eliminating the need to visit a bank in person. One of these methods involves utilizing face authentication technology provided by the government. Through the Aadhaar Face RD app and the Jeevan Pramaan application, pensioners can submit their certificates using an Android smartphone.

Additionally, pensioners can opt for a hassle-free option where they request a postman to submit their digital life certificate through the India Post Payment Bank website. For those facing mobility challenges, there's a special doorstep banking service available. This service caters to senior citizens above 70 and disabled individuals who have completed their KYC (Know Your Customer) requirements.

The doorstep service of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) offers a digital submission option for pensioners for Rs 70, regardless of whether the pensioner holds an account with IPPB. This initiative is the result of collaboration between the Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare, the Department of Posts, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), and the Ministry of Electronics and IT. Its goal is to facilitate the submission process for all pensioners across the country.

To submit the life certificate using the India Post Payments Bank mobile app, follow these steps:

Step 1: Download the Postinfo App from the Google Play Store.

Step 2: Open the app and navigate to service requests, providing the necessary details.

Step 3: Select the life certificate option after going to India Post Payment Bank.

Step 4: Confirm the submission with an OTP (One-Time Password), and the request for a Digital Life Certificate will be forwarded to the nearest post office.

Step 5: Within 48 hours, a postman will visit to deliver the digital life certificate. During the postman's visit, have your Aadhaar number and PPO number ready.

The postman will collect the required information, take the pensioner's fingerprint, and a cash payment of Rs 70. The life certificate will then be sent to the pension disbursing bank, and pensioners will receive a notification regarding its submission.

The introduction of these digital life certificates and convenient submission methods aims to make life easier for senior citizens and pensioners across India. The process not only saves time but also ensures that retirees continue to receive their well-deserved pensions without any interruptions.
