Sensex Ends Lower For Fourth Straight Day; Investors Lose Rs. 5 Trillion

It is the fourth consecutive session of losses for the benchmark indices, while the day's losses were pared to an extent in the mid trading session, Sensex again at the close lost 392.24 points to end the session at 39,888.96.10 while Nifty also dragged lower by 119.40 points to 11,678.50.

In the sell-off so far, a total of Rs. 5 lakh crore investor wealth has been eroded.

On the Nifty, major gainers today are Yes Bank, Bharti Infratel, Bajaj Auto, SBI and Axis Bank while losers in trade today were GAIL, Sun Pharma, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hindalco etc.

The coronavirus jitters have continued and as a result there is seen global risk off sentiment. Overnight US markets traded lower by over 3%. As per another report, the virus scare is likely to cost the global economy $1 trillion.

Also, due to continuing coronavirus alarm, there has been seen a massive inflow in Gold ETF, it being deemed as a safe haven.

Meanwhile, rupee has been trading firm at 71.66 per US dollar.
