Sensex Gains 133 Points, Nifty Closes Near All Time High; UltraTech Cement Top Gainer

In a volatile trading day, indices after opening higher for the sixth consecutive day pared all their early gains to trade almost flat. Nonetheless towards the close of the session traded firm and in fact indices scaled to their fresh high today. On the Nifty, a new high of 13,997 was made, while on the Sensex levels of 47807.85 were reached. Nifty closed higher by 0.35% or 49 points at 13982, while Sensex ended at 47746, up 133 points or 0.28%.

Nifty Bank traded weak after RBI report yesterday said banks' financials are likely to suffer owing to higher NPAs and muted income growth.

Top gainers in trade have been stocks like Ultra Tech Cement, Grasin, Shree Cements, UPL and Bajaj Finance, while top laggards include IndusInd Bank, Sun Pharma, Axis Bank, TCS and Bharti Airtel.

Yes Bank today said it has appointed Niranjan Banodkar as its Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with effect from January 1, 2021. The scrip of the bank last traded weak by a margin at Rs. 17.7 per share.

Astrazeneca Pharma shares rallied to a high of Rs. 4772 per share, gaining 5% after Britain approved the Covid 19 vaccine co-developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University.

SAIL rose 5 per cent to hit an over two-year high of Rs 67.85 on strong earnings outlook.

Meanwhile at the time of writing this copy, European markets traded mixed with losses on German DAX, while US stock futures point to a higher opening for the US markets.
