Sensex Hits Another Record High; Reliance Leads

Benchmark indices opened the day flat in trade, after three successive days of hitting a record. However, a few miniutes into openeing the Sensex surged and was trading higher by 129 points, and anew record of 41,801 points. while the Nifty was higher by 32 points.

Strong cues from the US is what is driving global markets. The S&P 500 crossed the 3,200 points mark for the first time on Thursday, ignoring US President Donald Trump's impeachment.

HDFC, HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries has been pushing record gains across the markets. Shares in Dishman fell after reports on reports that Income Tax officials visited the manufacturing sites and office of the company. The stock was down 2.5 per cent at Rs 113.80.

Among the Nifty stocks that led gainers today was SBI, UPL HCL Tech, Tata Motors and Axis Bank. Stocks that lost ground were Yes Bank, which had a spectacular rally on Thursday, Sun Pharma and Britannia.

Meanwhile, the rupee opened slightly lower at 71.16 to the dollar.
