Sensex, Nifty End Flat, Rupee Falls 9 Paise; FMCG Gains, IT, PSU Bank Drag

The Indian equity market ended on a flat note on Tuesday (September 26) where the FGCG sector performed well, while PSU Banks and IT Sector added to losses. At market close, the benchmark index Sensex fell 0.12% at 65,945.47 points, while the Nifty 50 declined 0.05% at 19,664.70 points.

In today's session, around 1791 shares advanced, 1756 shares declined, and 122 shares remained unchanged. In the sectoral performance, all other indices closed in the green, barring except bank, pharma, and IT sectors which settled lower. The FMCG index gained 0.5% today.

The top gainers on Nifty 50 included Eicher Motors, Hero MotoCorp, Nestle India, Bajaj Auto, and ONGC, while losers included Cipla, TechM, IndusInd Bank, Tech, and Adani Enterprises.

The top gainers on Sensex were Nestle, up 1.67%; Tata Steel, up 1.33%; Bajaj Finance, up 0.75% and Bharti Airtel, up 0.41%.

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty closed flat on Monday in a highly volatile trade amidst a volatile market. On Monday, the BSE Sensex settled at 66,023.69 points, while the broader Nifty settled marginally up at 19,674.55.

Today, the Indian rupee fell 9 paise to close at 83.24 per dollar, Bloomberg data showed.

The local currecy opened 5 paise lower at 83.19 against the US dollar on Tuesday amid a stronger American currency overseas and a rise in treasury yields. The local unit closed at 83.15 in the previous session.

On Monday, the rupee fell 21 paise to 83.15 a dollar.

In the BSE 200 pack, top gainers included Varun Beverages, Colgate, Eicher Motors, and Hero Motocorp.

Top Gainers and Losers on Bank Nifty:

Top Gainers on Bank Nifty were IDFC First Bank, AU Small Finance, Federal Bank, HDFC Bank, and SBI. The top losers in this segment were Bandhan Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, and Kotak Bank.

BSE- top gainers and loser:

Top Gainers: NCC, Vodafone Idea, Apar Industries, Jyothy Labs, Kalyan Jewellers India.

Top Losers: HLE Glascoat, TVS Holdings, Indiabulls Real Estate, GR Infraprojects, Shriram Finance.
