Sensex Slides 741 Points, Global Cues Weak

Benchmark indices ended the day sharply lower, as global cues were weak, following lower closings across the US markets.

Sentiments were poor from Asia to Europe, stocks lost at least 2 to 3 per cent on their benchmark indices.

The Sensex ended the day lower by 741 points, falling below the 34,000 level to end the day at 33,531 points. The Nifty ended the day lower by 214 points, falling below the 10,000 points mark to end at 9902 points.

Sensex Slides 741 Points, Global Cues Weak

Nifty stocks that lost maximum ground were Bharti Airtel, Zee Entertainment and State Bank of India. IndusInd Bank was one Nifty stock that saw a solid rally in trade and ended the day higher by almost 5 per cent.

Nifty Bank saw big losses of more than 2.7 per cent, with stocks like State Bank of India and ICICI Bank seeing deep cuts. DCB Bank, one of the smaller private sector banks, managed to buck the trend in the banking space and ended the day higher. The Board of Directors of the lender at have approved raising of funds up to Rs 500 crore.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee ended with losses in today's trading session ending the day at 75.78, a drop of almost 25 paise over Wednesday's close.
