Sensex Surges By 582 Points, L&T, HDFC Twins Lead Gainers

Nifty and Sensex ended in green in today's trade, ahead of RBI policy meeting scheduled tomorrow. Sensex surged by 582 points (0.99%) at 59,689.31, largely driven by financials and banks. FMCG, IT, pharma and metal stocks also rose. Auto companies and PSU banks, however, struggled. Nifty ended higher by 159 points or 0.91% at 17,557.05.

L&T, HDFC, HDFC Bank, and Hindustan Uniliver were the top gainers on Nifty. All major indices ended higher, even sectoral indices ended higher today 37 shares advanced and 13 declined on Nifty. In all on National stock exchnage, there were 1572 advances and 515 declines.

Top gainers on BSE Sensex were, L&T, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Sun Pharma, ITC, Grasim and Hindustan Uniliver. There were total 36 advances and 14 declines.

While top losers were Eicher Motors, Mahindra and Mahindra, Indusind Bank, NTPC, and Adani Enterprises were top losers on both the indices.

The markets had a flat start but later as the day progressed it inched higher and ended on a high note for the fourth staright trading session. additionally, the Indian rupee ended at 42-mark against the USD after the US dollar index eased to a fresh two-month low of 101.43, it was stronger by 0.41% today. Tomorrow RBI will annouce the interest in its MPC.
