Sharjah Postpones Start of Academic Session 2026-27 for Indian, Pakistani Schools; When New Classes Will Begin

The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) has announced the postponement of the start of the 2026-2027 academic year for private schools following Indian and Pakistani curricula in Sharjah. According to an official circular issued to schools, students will now begin classes on March 30, 2026, instead of the previously scheduled date of March 23.

Sharjah Academic Year Start Postponed by One Week For Indian & Pakistani Students

In its announcement, SPEA said that the decision applies specifically to private schools offering Indian and Pakistani curricula in the emirate. The authority stated that the academic year will now commence on March 30, effectively delaying the start of the new term by one week.

The earlier academic calendar had planned for students to return to classrooms on March 23, but the new directive provides schools and students additional time before the academic year begins.

Remote Examinations Scheduled for March 9-12

SPEA also clarified that students may take examinations remotely between March 9 and March 12, 2026. The arrangement allows schools to conduct assessments without requiring students to attend campus physically during that period.

Officials said the decision aims to ensure that academic schedules remain flexible while still allowing institutions to complete necessary evaluation processes.

According to the authority, the revised schedule was approved after several schools submitted requests through the Council of School Principals. SPEA reviewed the explanations and justifications provided by the institutions before making the final decision.

The authority said the move was designed to accommodate operational and academic considerations raised by school administrations while maintaining the integrity of the academic calendar.

The postponement affects thousands of students enrolled in Indian and Pakistani curriculum schools in Sharjah, many of whom follow academic calendars aligned with education boards in India and Pakistan.

School administrators are expected to update parents and students regarding revised schedules, remote exam arrangements and the start of regular classroom sessions from March 30, 2026.
