HCL Chairperson Roshni Nadar Becomes First Indian Woman To Secure Spot in Hurun's Top 10 Global Rich Rankings

The Indian Businesswoman Roshni Nadar Malhotra is the latest addition to the Hurun Global Rich List 2025 with a net worth of $40 billion (Rs. 3.5 lakh crore) .With this achievement, she became the first Indian woman to make it into the world's richest persons list. She also became the fifth richest woman in the world after Shiv Nadar gave her a 47% stake in HCL.

Who is Roshni Nadar Malhotra?

Roshni Nadar Malhotra is the chairperson of HCL Tech, a global provider of IT services and consulting. She is a daughter of India's third richest person Shiv Nadar. She is the first female CEO of India's leading publicly traded IT company, HCL Corporation. She is ranked 81st on Forbes' List of Power Women in 2024.

The 43-year-old HCL Chairperson has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Kellogg School of Management. She completed her undergraduate degree in communications from Northwestern University. She is married to Shikhar Malhotra, a director and board member at HCL Corporation, the holding company for HCL's operating entities. In July 2020, she succeeded her father in the position of the $12 billion IT behemoth.

Apart from her strong leadership role in HCL, she participates in charitable endeavours similar to her father Mr. Nadar. She actively supports the Shiv Nadar Foundation as aTrustee. The foundation mainly focuses on education. She has helped to establish some of India's leading colleges and schools. Additionally, she contributes to conservation efforts through The Habitats Trust.

Roshni Nadar: A Key Figure In HCL Group

Shiv Nadar, the founder of HCL Group gave his daughter Roshni Nadar Malhotra a 47% of his stake in HCL Corp and Vama Delhi, the group's promoter entities, as part of a well-planned succession strategy on March 11, 2025. After the stake transfer, she became the main stakeholder of Vama Delhi and HCL Corp, according to the firm's stock exchange filings. She acquired control of the voting rights associated with Vama Delhi's 12.94 percent interest in HCL Infosystems and HCL Corp's 49.94 percent stake.

Prior to this transaction, Roshni Nadar Malhotra owned 10.33% of both companies, while Shiv Nadar owned 51%. To establish Malhotra's position as the main promoter and to maintain the stability of the HCL group's leadership, the promoter companies undertook a significant restructure.

She has played a significant role in determining the company's future course since taking over as chairperson of HCL Technologies in July 2020.

According to the Hurun Global Rich List 2025, the chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani regained his title as the 'Richest Person in Asia.' But Mr. Ambani is no longer among the top ten richest people in the world. He ranked 18th in Hurun list with the net worth of Rs. 1 lakh crore has dropped due to an increase in his debt.

On the other hand, Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group, increased his wealth by 13 percent. The net worth of Adani increased to Rs.8.4 lakh crore to become India's largest wealth gainer, according to the Hurun Global Rich List for 2025. He is now ranked at 27th position in the list of world's top wealthiest people. The Hurun report mentioned, "Gautam Adani's net worth increased by 13 percent, reaching 97 billion dollars."

India took third place on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025 with 284 billionaires, an addition of 13 Indians as compared to previous year. India ranked after China and the United States (US) followed by the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, and Switzerland.
