The Group of Twenty (G20) Summit is scheduled on September 9 and 10 in New Delhi, India under the presidency of India. The summit is one way to maximize India's enormous diplomatic potential to assume the G20 Presidency.
The G20 is made up of 19 countries that together account for 75% of global trade and almost 85% of the world's GDP. These numbers demonstrate how powerful it is because actions made within the group-or not-have a big impact. The G20 is made up of Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, US, UK, and the European Union (EU).

Tech Transformation & Digital Public Infrastructure
India as a leader in the Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) industry has successfully implemented a number of DPI projects, including Aadhaar, UPI, and account aggregators. By facilitating financial and social inclusion across several sectors, these projects have revolutionized the digital landscape. Having effectively designed and scaled digital solutions that have enhanced public governance and service delivery for its citizens, India has succeeded in the DPI field.
India has established the DPI Partnership as part of its G20 presidency to allow other nations, particularly those in the low- and middle-income brackets, to benefit from its expertise in utilizing technology to enhance governance and promote social, economic, digital, and sustainable development. In addition, India has introduced the idea to form an alliance of countries, called One Future Alliance (OFA), which would allow like-minded nations to use technology to improve people's lives.
All nations are free to adopt, reuse, and recreate digital public infrastructure. India's experience has demonstrated that it is composed of shared digital solutions that cooperate to deliver vital services to the populace. Digital public infrastructure is supported by a technological layer, a governance framework, and a multi-stakeholder ecosystem. It is driven by enabling rules and promotes innovation, competition, and inclusiveness.
G20 Recognize DPI
In August 2023, the G20 Ministers responsible for Digital Economy established a ground-breaking agreement on how to successfully define future DPI as an accelerator of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a historic move while India held the G20 Presidency. The G20 Digital Ministers also welcomed the OFA.
In order to coordinate international efforts in the DPI ecosystem, OFA strives to bring together governments, the commercial sector, academic and research institutions, donor agencies, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders.
G20 members concurred on the significance of digital public infrastructure for digital inclusion and innovation, building safety, security, resilience, and trust in the digital economy, and digital skilling for creating a workforce that is ready for the future around the world.
India and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
India and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are working together to establish a global vision for inclusive and sustainable DPI that is driven by community action as part of India's G20 Presidency. In the Digital Economy Working Group, the World Bank and the UNDP worked together with the Government of India as a knowledge partner on DPI.
During India's G20 Presidency, the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, and the UNDP collaborated to promote group action on digital public infrastructure. In order to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals, the collaboration intends to stimulate knowledge and action in the digital sphere.
G20 Presidency of India
The G20 Presidency of India presents a special chance to direct this important global agenda through international digital cooperation. In order to implement DPI, it is important to focus equally on technologies, the governance of technologies, and local digital ecosystems.
