The Election Commission of India has rolled out Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral vote lists in December for six states, such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Andaman & Nicobar, and Uttar Pradesh. To ensure that no eligible elector misses out on their voting rights, ECI encourages new electors to fill out the Form 6 along with the Declaration and submit them to the booth level officers (BLOs) or fill out the Form and Declaration online using the ECINet App/website.
What is the objective of SIR?

The activity of SIR has kickstarted from November 4, 2025, and will end with the publication of the final electoral roll on February 7, 2026, a few days after the Union Budget announcement for FY27.
ECI is empowered with preparing and revising the country's electoral rolls. To maintain the integrity of the electoral roll, the Commission orders revision of the electoral roll before every election or as per requirement.
But since several changes is already tweaked in the existing electoral roll due to frequent migration. This has resulted in electors getting registered in more than one place. Accordingly, the Election Commission announced the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) with the objective that no eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible person is included.
Gujarat SIR Draft Electoral Voters List:
The latest SIR draft electoral voters list is released for Gujarat state. As per the latest update, the draft roll recorded 5.8 lakh crore voter registrations, of which 73.73 lakh voters' names were deleted. Hence, 4.34 lakh crore voters are fully digitized, and they can submit their claims and objections till January 18, 2026, while election officers will dispose of all such claims and objections by February 10, 2026.
TAMIL NADU SIR Draft Electoral Voters List:
Among the many states whose SIR has been released is also Tamil Nadu. As per reports, the state recorded 6.41 lakh crore voters on the list before the exercise. However, after SIR exercise, about 27 lakh names were said to be dead, and about 66 lakh voters are said to have left the state. This means only 5.43 lakh crore voters are digitized for the 2026 assembly election.
West Bengal SIR Draft Electoral Voters List:
The SIR draft electoral voters list is also announced for West Bengal. In a shocking scan, about 7.6% of its total voters list is deleted due to several reasons. Before the exercise, about 7.6 crore voters were found in the list. But about 58 lakh voters are removed, and 1.6 crore voters are under the scanner. This reduced the total number to 7.1 crore voters.
As per the government, in order to ensure that no eligible elector is left behind, new electors are being encouraged to fill up the Form 6 along with the Declaration and submit them to the BLOs or fill the Form and Declaration online using the ECINet App/website https://voters.eci.gov.in/ to get their names included in the Final Electoral Rolls, which will be published in February, 2026.
