As a pleasant piece of news, now Bengaluru residents will be soon be able to reach Kempegowda International Airport via Indian Railways train.

The airport that is remotely located at about 35 km from the CBD until now is reached by buses or for that matter private cabs or personal cars.

Since almost a decade's time, the residents of the metro city have been demanding mass transit facility to the international airport.

And now, halt station of Indian Railways at the boundary of the airport is likely to be readied by August. This will allow the South Western Railway zone to give a stoppage for trains that are being operated on the Yelahanka-Bangarpet rail line, a South Western Railway official told a leading daily.

The construction work on the halt station is nearing completion, said Ashok Kumar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager (Bengaluru) in a report by another daily.

So, after train services resume a stoppage shall be offered at the halt station. . The Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) is likely to run a free shuttle service every 15 minutes from the railway station to the airport. For this, the road leading to the halt station has been repaired as well. It takes around eight minutes to travel from the railway station to the airport, Verma said.
