A South Korean delegation met with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to explore cooperation in smart farming and biotechnology, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity in the state.
A South Korean delegation recently engaged in discussions with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, focusing on smart farming and advanced agricultural technologies. This meeting followed Mann's visit to South Korea, aiming to strengthen ties in agriculture. The discussions highlighted the potential for collaboration in areas like biotechnology and small agricultural machinery.

The delegation expressed admiration for Punjab's rich cultural heritage and favourable business environment. They were also invited to the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit 2026, scheduled from March 13 to 15 in Mohali. This summit aims to foster further cooperation between Punjab and South Korea.
Focus on Smart Farming and Machinery
Mann emphasised the importance of adopting South Korea's vertical farming models and automation expertise. He noted that these innovations could transform agriculture into a profitable venture in Punjab. The state's interest in small agricultural machinery aligns with South Korea's experience in this sector.
Highlighting the relevance of South Korea's advancements, Mann stated, "South Korea has already demonstrated its strength and innovation in the agriculture business, and Punjab wants to benefit from these technological advancements." This reflects Punjab's eagerness to integrate global best practices into its agricultural framework.
Invitation to Investment Summit
The Chief Minister extended a formal invitation to the South Korean delegation for the upcoming investment summit. He remarked, "This summit will provide an ideal platform to take our cooperation forward in a structured and mutually beneficial manner." The event is expected to enhance bilateral ties significantly.
During his visit to South Korea last December, Mann explored opportunities for positioning Punjab as a destination for global investment. His efforts aim to attract international interest in various sectors, including agriculture, through strategic partnerships.
Potential for Future Collaborations
The South Korean delegation showed keen interest in collaborating with Punjab, indicating the possibility of future partnerships. Their expertise in vertical farming and mechanisation is particularly relevant due to Punjab's small landholdings.
Mann recalled visiting Pang-yo Techno Valley, known as the Silicon Valley of South Korea. He expressed interest in collaborating on automation of farm machinery, biotechnology, seed technology, smart combine harvesters, transplanters, seeds, and related sectors.
Punjab is keen on attracting investment from South Korea in small agriculture machinery. Mann highlighted that South Korea's experience with small landholdings makes its innovations highly applicable to Punjab's context.
The meeting underscored the mutual benefits of cooperation between Punjab and South Korea. Both parties are optimistic about leveraging each other's strengths for agricultural advancement.
