SpiceJet Bengaluru Airport Flash Strike Row: Airline Denies Disruption, Employees Raise Salary Delay Concerns
Budget airline SpiceJet has rejected reports of a sudden employee strike at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport, maintaining that flight and ground operations continued without disruption. The denial comes amid mounting concerns among some employees over delayed salary payments, with workers alleging that irregular disbursements have persisted for several months.
SpiceJet Denies Flash Strike At Bengaluru Airport
The dispute has emerged at a particularly sensitive time for airport operations, with enhanced security measures being implemented ahead of Independence Day. Employees working in baggage handling, security checks and other ground-support functions play a crucial role in keeping aircraft turnarounds and passenger movement on schedule.

SpiceJet has dismissed reports of a flash strike at Bengaluru airport as inaccurate and said there was no operational disruption on Sunday night. The airline said salary payments were being released in stages and maintained that its airport operations continued normally.
SpiceJet Clarifies Salary Payments, Notice Period Rules For Employees
According to the airline, salaries for May had been paid to junior and support employees, while payments for other staff were being processed progressively. SpiceJet has also disputed claims surrounding employee notice periods, saying junior employees are generally subject to one- or two-month notice periods rather than the six-month period alleged by some workers.
SpiceJet Employees Raise Concerns Over Salary Delays
While the airline has denied a strike, employees have raised concerns over what they describe as prolonged salary uncertainty. Some workers have alleged that salary payments have been inconsistent since October 2025, with certain employees claiming that payments equivalent to three months of salary remain outstanding.
The reported delays have reportedly placed additional financial pressure on workers, particularly those managing monthly rent, loan instalments, credit card payments and household expenses. Employees have also raised concerns that delayed payments could affect their ability to maintain their financial commitments.
Some workers have further alleged delays involving statutory-related dues, including provident fund and gratuity payments. These claims form part of the broader employee grievances reported from the Bengaluru unit, although the airline has not accepted the allegations in the same manner.
Security Staff Absence Raises Operational Questions
The situation reportedly became more tense late on August 9 when some security personnel allegedly did not report for duty around 10 pm. According to sources cited in the report, the employees returned around 1 am on August 10 after senior officials assured them that pending salaries would be credited shortly.
SpiceJet, however, does not consider the incident a strike and has maintained that there was no disruption to airport operations.
SpiceJet Disputes Six-Month Notice Period Claim
SpiceJet has also pushed back against claims that junior employees are required to serve a six-month notice period before leaving the company. The airline said such a requirement applies to senior management at the General Manager level and above.
For junior employees, SpiceJet said the applicable notice period is generally between one and two months. The airline added that requests for early release are being assessed individually and that waivers may be granted where considered appropriate.
The issue is significant for employees facing salary uncertainty because delays in relieving formalities or final settlements can make it harder for workers to move to another employer, particularly in airport roles that involve documentation and background verification.
