In a surprising turn of events, SpiceJet chief Ajay Singh, despite facing internal challenges, has submitted a bid for the bankrupt Go First, along with Busy Bee Airways and Sky One. Go First ceased operations in May 2023, and SpiceJets involvement as an operating partner aims to leverage synergies and strengthen the Indian aviation market.
In a significant development, SpiceJet Chairman Ajay Singh, along with Busy Bee Airways and Sharjah-based Sky One, have submitted bids for the bankrupt Go First, which ceased operations over nine months ago. This announcement comes at a time when SpiceJet itself is grappling with financial challenges and is undertaking cost-rationalization measures, including staff layoffs.

SpiceJet's Bid and Collaboration
SpiceJet, through a press release issued on Friday, announced that Ajay Singh, in his personal capacity, along with Busy Bee Airways Pvt Ltd, has submitted a bid for Go First. The release highlights that SpiceJet's role as the operating partner for the new airline involves providing essential staff, services, and industry expertise. This collaboration is expected to generate synergies between the two carriers, leading to improved cost management, revenue growth, and a stronger market position within the Indian aviation industry.
Busy Bee Airways and Go First's Potential
While the release does not provide specific details about Busy Bee Airways, available data from the corporate affairs ministry indicates that the company was incorporated in Delhi on April 19, 2017, with a paid-up capital of Rs 1 lakh. Ajay Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, expressed his belief in Go First's potential and the opportunity to revitalize it in close synergy with SpiceJet, benefiting both carriers.
Benefits for SpiceJet
For SpiceJet, serving as the service provider for Go First presents significant revenue expansion opportunities. Coordinated route planning initiatives aim to enhance passenger traffic and drive ticket sales for both airlines. By strategically aligning their flight schedules and destinations, SpiceJet and the new airline can capture a larger market share and cater to diverse passenger needs effectively.
SpiceJet's Financial Situation
Despite facing multiple challenges, including financial woes and legal battles, SpiceJet is actively raising funds and has already received an amount of Rs 744 crore. The company is also in the process of raising an additional Rs 1,000 crore, as mentioned in the release.
Sky One's Bid and Experience
In a separate development, Sky One FZE, headquartered in Sharjah, has also submitted a bid for Go First. The company's Chairman, Jaideep Mirchandani, expressed confidence in the acquisition, citing their extensive aviation experience across the globe. Sky One specializes in various aviation services, including cargo charters.
Extension of Insolvency Resolution Process
On February 13, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) extended the deadline for another 60 days to complete the insolvency resolution process of Go First. The airline's operations were suspended due to financial difficulties caused by persistent issues with Pratt & Whitney engines, resulting in the grounding of its aircraft.
The bids submitted by SpiceJet, Busy Bee Airways, and Sky One mark a crucial stage in the revival of Go First. The potential collaboration between SpiceJet and Go First, if successful, could bring about positive changes in the Indian aviation industry. As the insolvency resolution process unfolds, the coming weeks will reveal the fate of Go First and its future trajectory.
