Stock Market Opening: Nifty and Sensex opened lower on Monday, July 14, as indicated by the Gift Nifty earlier today. While Nifty 50 started 40.80 points lower at 25,109 points, BSE Sensex opened 143.47 points lower at 82,357 points.
The flat opening of the Indian stock market today has come amid the ongoing Q1 result season. IT sector stocks remained lower on Monday as investors remained nervous about the upcoming quarterly results of IT giants like HCL Tech, Infosys, etc.
Some pharma stocks, a few FMCG stocks and top BSE heavyweights remained in green today. Nearly all the broadmarket indices remained in red with certain smallcap indices emerging as exceptions. While Nifty 100, 200, and 500 remained under pressure, Nifty Midcap 50, Smallcap 100, etc surged today.

Coming to sectoral indices, Nifty Auto, Nifty FMCG, Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Realty, etc remained in green during the early hours of the trading session, whereas, Nifty IT, Media, Oil and Gas, etc remained in red.
Top Gainers, Top Losers
Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, HCL Tech, TCS, Tata Motors and Bharti Airtels were among the top laggards on Nifty 50. Whereas, Sun Pharma, Grasim, Coal India, Power Grid, Hero Motocorp, Hindalco, etc were among the top Nifty gainers early Monday.
The Indian stock market opened on Monday after the Nifty and Sensex indicated a negative start for the day. Gift Nifty was trading lower earlier in the morning, carrying forward the muted market sentiment witnessed across the globe. The US stock market ended in the red on Friday, whereas Asian stock markets gave mixed signals during early Monday trade.
The Indian stock market ended on a negative note on Friday as investors closely observed developments around the United States trade tariffs and related announcements by US President Donald Trump. Additionally, the beginning of quarterly earnings season with Tata Consultancy Services announcing its company earnings are will also impact the market industries.
TCS disappointed the investors with its below-than-expected earnings for the first quarter of financial year 2025-26. Now, investors will be closely monitoring the upcoming Q1 result of HCL Tech, set to be announced on Monday.
Global Stock Market Today
Global stock markets experienced a mixed performance recently. The S&P 500 saw a decline of 0.33%, closing at 6,259.75 with a volume of 2.619 billion. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 0.63%, ending at 44,371.51 with a volume of 474.098 million.
In Asia, the Hang Seng Index showed a slight increase of 0.03%, reaching 24,146.21. The KOSPI Composite Index rose by 0.27% to close at 3,184.28.The Nikkei 225 in Japan fell by 0.26%, ending the day at 39,464.97, while the SSE Composite Index in China increased by 0.43%, reaching a value of 3,525.40.
