Indian stock markets will see a brief pause in trading next week as the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) observe a holiday on account of Christmas on Thursday. The holiday will lead to a temporary suspension of trading across key market segments, offering investors a short break amid an otherwise active year-end trading period.
Stock Market Holiday Next Week: BSE, NSE Trade Holiday in December 2025 or Year Ending
According to exchange notifications, trading will remain suspended on December 25 in the equity, equity derivatives and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments on both the BSE and NSE. Normal market operations will resume on Friday, December 26, when investors return to trading after the one-day holiday.

Apart from the usual weekend closures on Saturday and Sunday, Christmas is the only officially scheduled stock market holiday in December, making it a relatively uninterrupted month for market participants.
Trading Holiday Calendar From December 22 To 26, 2025
The trading week between December 22 and December 26 will therefore see markets open on Monday, December 22 and continue normally through Wednesday, December 24, before shutting on Thursday for Christmas. Trading will restart on Friday, December 26, followed by the regular weekend closure.
In the previous trading session ahead of the holiday week, Indian equity markets ended on a muted note, reflecting cautious sentiment. The BSE Sensex slipped 13.71 points, or 0.02 per cent, to close at 85,706.67. During the session, the index touched an intra-day high of 85,969.89 and a low of 85,577.82, indicating a swing of over 392 points.
Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty declined 12.60 points, or 0.05 per cent, to settle at 26,202.95, snapping a two-day gaining streak. Mixed global cues and valuation concerns kept broader market sentiment restrained, with investors remaining selective.
US Stock Market Holiday: NYSE, Nasdaq Trading Holidays on Christmas 2025
While Indian markets will shut for Christmas, U.S. stock exchanges will largely stick to their pre-announced holiday schedules. The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq have confirmed that their trading calendars will remain unchanged on December 24 and December 26, 2025, despite a new executive order from the White House granting federal employees those days off.
Both exchanges said Christmas Eve trading on December 24 will close early at 1 p.m. New York time, while December 26 will be a full trading session.
The White House executive order, issued on Thursday, announced that the federal government would remain closed on Christmas Eve and on December 26, creating an extended official holiday period for federal workers in the United States.
However, stock exchanges clarified that this decision does not alter their market schedules, ensuring continuity in U.S. financial markets during the holiday week.
