Stock Market Holiday On Dussehra: Sensex, Nifty Will Not Be Open For Trading Tomorrow

Stock Market Holiday: Trading in the Indian market will not be open on October 24 due to the celebration of Dussehra across the country. Trading will be shut in segments like equities, equity derivatives, SLB and currency.

On Monday, Sensex traded in the range of 65,453.92 and 65,342.58, while Nifty 50 performed between 19,556.85 to 19,514.60 respectively. The overall sentiment of the market is volatile due to multi-year high treasury yields and escalating tensions in the Middle East on the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas war.

There are 3,195 stocks traded on BSE as of October 23, 2023.

In the global market, the 10-year treasury yield crossed over 5% mark. While both crude oil and gold prices continue to rise. Asian and US stocks were feeble.

Dussehra is a major Hindu festival which is celebrated every year usually the end of Navratri. Further, the festival is referred to as the tenth day of the month of Ashvin, the seventh in the Hindu Luni-Solar Calendar.

The festival which is also called Vijayadashami is celebrated as a victory of Rama over the notorious king Ravana who had abducted Rama's wife Sita. On this day, many regions of India attend a hearty fair where effigies of Ravana are burned as a sign of good winning over evil.

In general terms, trading on the equities segment takes place on all days of the week (except Saturdays and Sundays and holidays declared by the Exchange in advance).

The market timings of the equities segment are --pre-opening session at 9:00 am, while order entry closes at 9.08 am. The regular trading session is from 9:15 a.m. to 15:30 on weekdays, while there is a closing session between 15:40 to 16:00 after market hours.

The block and bulk deals timing are divided into two sessions the morning session which begins from 08:45 AM to 09:00 AM and the afternoon session which operates between 02:05 PM to 2:20 PM.

On NSE's website, it is said that the Exchange may, however, close the market on days other than the above scheduled holidays or may open the market on days originally declared as holidays. The Exchange may also extend, advance or reduce trading hours when it deems fit and necessary.
