Indian stock markets are set for an extended pause this week, as trading will remain shut for three consecutive days due to a combination of a public holiday and the weekend. The closure comes on account of Maharashtra Day, which falls on Friday, May 1, 2026, followed by the regular Saturday and Sunday market holidays.
Stock Market Holiday: NSE, BSE to Remain Shut for Three Straight Days
Both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed on May 1 across all major segments. This includes equity trading, derivatives, currency derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), as well as electronic gold receipts (EGR). Trading activity will resume on Monday after the extended weekend break.

1st May Market Holiday; MCX Trading Hours Announced For Maharashtra Day
In the commodities segment, trading hours will be partially affected. The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will remain closed during the morning session, which runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, the exchange is expected to reopen for the evening session between 5:00 PM and 11:55 PM, subject to official confirmation.

Maharashtra Day Holiday on May 1, 2026: Stock markets will remain closed on May 1, 2026, on the occasion of Maharashtra Day, with trading suspended across all major segments on both the BSE and NSE.
Bakri Id Holiday on May 28, 2026: Later in the month, markets will again observe a holiday on May 28, 2026, for Bakri Id (Eid-ul-Adha), when trading activity will remain shut across exchanges.
