Overall, from October 12th to 16th, Sensex skyrocketed by 2,387.26 points or 3.30% and Nifty 50 jumped 562.80 points or 2.5%.

According to Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments, Indian equities staged a firm recovery this week despite inflation concerns weighing on sentiment early on. Consumer inflation hovering near the upper end of the RBI's tolerance band and a hotter-than-expected WPI print pushed the benchmark bond yield to a multi-year high, reviving fears of further monetary tightening.

While the RBI's move to raise the daily CRR maintenance requirement to absorb surplus liquidity added to the caution, sentiment improved steadily as the central bank's special dollar window for oil marketing companies and tighter hedging norms drove a rebound in the rupee.

He further explained that expectations of a review of LTCG tax and STT, softer crude prices and easing bond yields further revived risk appetite. This made investors to look past the initial headwinds and tilt towards counters with strong Q2FY27 business updates, though the rally remained concentrated in large-caps, with mid-caps posting modest gains and small-caps ending marginally lower.

During the week , IT emerged as the standout performer on robust earnings and upbeat management commentary, aided by rotation into domestic large-caps following a sell-off in tech-heavy global markets. Conversely, Healthcare and Pharma lagged as investors rotated towards sectors offering stronger near-term earnings visibility, while FMCG came under pressure amid concerns over margin compression from elevated input costs, as per the expert.

Stock Market Weekly Outlook:

In Nair's view, looking ahead, the sustainability of the recovery will hinge on earnings growth broadening beyond IT, with revenue and margin delivery across financials, consumption and industrials under close scrutiny. On the data front, India's October PMI will offer insight into domestic demand momentum, while US jobless claims and Japan's inflation print will shape global rate expectations.

He said, with inflation elevated and the policy bias tilted towards tightening, the market is likely to remain selective and earnings driven.

Moreover, Kruti Shah, Quant Analyst, Equirus Securities said, NIFTY enters the coming week with a constructive bias after one of the best weekly gain YTD, supported by strength in IT, private banks and autos. FII additions in stock futures and selective short covering. The nearly 6% contraction in market-wide OI and unwinding of 23,000 CE positions suggest easing bearish pressure at the benchmark level.

However, Shah also said, continued client long unwinding and fresh short build-up in capital goods & Financials indicate that broader-market participation remains fragile. The 23,400-23,500 zone will be a key resistance area to watch for fresh call writing, while 22,800 remains an important near-term support. Elevated PCR and put writing across 22,200-22,600 may provide a downside cushion, although elevated client positioning and DII hedging could sustain volatility.
