Stock Market Holidays October 2026: What Will Happen To Your Portfolio?

"The Exchange Closes. Risk Doesn't," said Prateek Goel, Founder, Equity Trading Hub (SEBI Registered Research Analyst). He highlighted that the market is closed but your money is still active on market instruments.

This year, Indian exchanges are witnessing at least 15 special holidays during weekdays, seven of them are stretching into three-day weekends.

"While you switch off, the world keeps ticking. Crude surges, the dollar swings, and global indices turn. All of it lands on your portfolio as a single opening gap. No chance to react. No exit in between," Goel added.

For option traders, he advised that there's a quieter sting. Time decay doesn't take a holiday. A long weekend chips away at your premium while the exchange sits silent.

"So check three things before every holiday: expiry, settlement, overnight exposure," he said.
