Today, the Indian stock market started the day slightly lower, but by the afternoon, the Nifty was trading over 25,750 with an upside gap of 185 points, while the Sensex was trading 651 points higher at 84,118. Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, Max Healthcare Institute, and M&M were the top five gainers on the Nifty index as of October 17, 2025, at 11:41:08 IST. Wipro, Eternal, Infosys, Jio Financial Services, and Tech Mahindra were the top five losers.
On Thursday, markets ended on a strong note, with the Sensex surging 862 points to close at 83,467.66, while the Nifty 50 climbed 1.03% to settle at 25,585.30. Broad-based buying across sectors and firm domestic cues contributed to the upbeat momentum.
However, global cues remain slightly weak this morning. Major Asian markets are trading in the red, tracking overnight losses on Wall Street. The U.S. indices, Nasdaq, S&P 500, and Dow Jones Industrial Average all closed more than 0.50% lower amid concerns over interest rates and mixed corporate earnings.

Result Update: Eternal | Prioritising long-term value creation over near term gains in QC
“Eternal’s 2QFY26 results suggest that the management will henceforth be prioritising long-term value creation over near-term gains in quick commerce. The company delivered solid NOV growth in quick commerce (+137% YoY, +27% QoQ) and accelerated supply chain (dark store / warehousing densification) and MTU expansion to drive meaningful market share gains over the near to medium term, with 100%+ NOV growth now expected in FY27 as well. However, its absolute loss reduction was nominal as Adj. EBITDA loss stood at INR 1.56bn (below JMFe of INR 0.93bn) vs. INR 1.62bn in 1Q. Importantly, accelerated growth investments such as plans to expand dark-store network to 2,100 stores by Dec’25 and increased marketing spends (1.4x QoQ/~4x YoY in 2Q) are likely to push out the break-even in the business till 1QFY27. Nevertheless, we believe as and when management’s focus shifts towards profitability, Eternal will deliver a sudden ramp-up in its absolute EBITDA profits. Accordingly, while we take sharp cuts in our Consol. FY26 EBITDA/EPS estimates, we raise our FY27/28 estimates. We reiterate Eternal as our preferred pick with a revised Sep’26 TP of INR 450 (NTM PER of 80x),” said Swapnil Potdukhe of JM Financial Institutional Securities.

Nifty Outlook Today By Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited
Oscillators are in need of easing, after sharp rise yesterday. Dips to 25400 is the favoured move today. However, if Nifty manages to float above 25520 after initial dips, a push towards 25670 may be seen, though sustainability is doubted, as warned yesterday as well.

Market Outlook Today By Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited
The market is resilient and technically strong. Price action in the leading stocks indicate short covering. Even now there is big shorts in the system and the strength in the market might keep the bears on the back foot, facilitating further short covering. Good results from the banking majors HDFC and ICICI can impart fundamental support to the market, and if RIL, which has been a laggard for some time now, also joins the rally, the market can sustain the momentum for some more time. Muhurat trading and the festival cheer can add to the bullish spirits.
However, there are some lingering concerns which should not be lost sight of. China has been imposing restrictions on exports of rare earth metals and magnets in recent days. China’s weaponisation of rare earths, in which it has around 90% global market share, is in response to Trump’s weaponisation of tariffs. Unfortunately, if this lingers, it will hurt all nations, including India.

USFDA Approves Turtle Excluder Device
US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), in coordination with NOAA, has approved India’s Turtle Excluder Device (TED) for shrimp trawl fisheries. This decision is expected to lift the US ban on wildcaught shrimp imports, which had been imposed in 2021 under Section 609 of the US Endangered Species Act, due to concerns over sea turtle conservation. The Indian TED was designed and standardized by CIFT, drawing on earlier experimental studies by CMFRI
