Stock Market Live Updates:Sensex, Nifty Close In Red; Indian Rupee Falls

The Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 closed in the red on Monday. At market close Sensex was down 0.21% at 65,655.15, while Nifty slipped 0.19% at 19,694 points. The Indian rupee closed lower today at 83.34 against the US dollar compared to Friday's close of 83.27.

BSE Sensex fell 82 points or 0.11% to 65,719 and Nifty50 declined 10 points or 0.05% to 19,721 at 9:25 am today. Nifty Bank slipped 58 points to 43,525 and Nifty Midcap gained 168 points to 41,979 on Monday at 9:26 pm.

The top gainers from the pack of Sensex include HCL Tech, NTPC, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Infosys while shares of Axis Bank, Larsen, M&M, UltraTech Cement emerged as the top losers today.

Earlier, GIFT Nifty on the NSE IX witnessed a decline of 14.5 points or 0.07% at 19,805 thus indicating a muted start for Dalal Street on Monday, November 20, 2023. Asian stocks registered gains tracking minor gains on the Wall Street earlier on Friday as hopes remained strong that Federal Reserve may soon end the interest rate hiking cycle. Several major shares indexes surged in South Korea and Australia as Japan's Nikkei 225 index traded at nearly 33-year high.

Meanwhile, shares of Cipla are likely to remain in focus today as it received warning letter from USFDA for Pithampur manufacturing facility.

Stocks that are likely to remain in limelight on today will include Jio Financial Services, ESAF SFB, Oberoi Realty, Trident, and VIP Industries. These stocks are probably on the radar of market observers and might lead to price movements that could stimulate day trading.

Jio Financial Services Shri Sethuraman Kandasamy, Shri Jagannatha Kumar Venkata Gollapalli and Ms Jayashri Rajesh have resigned as directors of the company effective from the end of business hours of November 17, 2023.

Ajit Mishra, SVP - Technical Research, Religare Broking said, "On Friday, the markets took a breather after two days of advance and ended marginally lower. After the initial downtick, Nifty hovered in a narrow band for most of the session and finally settled at 19731.80 levels. Meanwhile, mixed trends on the sectoral front kept the traders busy wherein pharma, FMCG and auto posted decent gains while banking and energy were on the back foot. Interestingly, the broader indices managed to extend their prevailing tone and ended flat."
