Stock Market Live Updates: Sensex Down 170 Points, Nifty Below 25,200, Hindalco, Ultratech Cement Top Gainers

The Nifty started the day above the 25,200 level, while the Sensex was slightly up but mostly flat. Most sectors opened in the green, with Nifty Realty leading the gains.

Meanwhile, Indian market was expected to see a positive start on Thursday, July 17, as indicated by GIFT Nifty trends. As of 7:45 AM, Nifty futures were trading 50 points or 0.2% up, at 25,280, hinting at a green start after the flat closing on Wednesday, July 16.

In the previous session, benchmark indices ended almost flat. The Sensex rose by 63.57 points, or 0.08%, to close at 82.634.48, while the Nifty 50 went up by 25 points, or 0.10%, to settle at 25,212.25.

M&M, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Nestlé India, and the State Bank of India (SBI) were the top Nifty gainers. While, Shriram Finance, Eternal, Sun Pharma, Cipla, Tata Steel, and Tata Motors were among the top losers on the Nifty index.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 113.5 points or 0.45% higher at 25,195.8, while the BSE Sensex closed 317.45 points or 0.39% up at 82,570.91.

Global Market Update:
Asian stock markets opened without clear direction today, following a bumpy trading session in the US. Investors were reacting to uncertainty about the future of US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, with rumors swirling about whether former President Donald Trump might fire him.

Despite the market swings, the S&P 500 ended close to its all-time high. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.25%, reaching a new record, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average also made gains.
