Closing Bell: Sensex Down 800 Points, Nifty At About 22,500 All sectors in Red

Indian stock indices opened with a downward trend on April 12, with the Nifty slipping below the 22,700 mark. The Sensex witnessed a decline of 264.36 points or 0.35%, reaching 74,773.79, while the Nifty dropped by 79.50 points or 0.35%, touching 22,674.30. Market data indicated that 1151 shares advanced, 1125 shares declined, and 192 shares remained unchanged.

In the Nifty, notable gainers included NTPC, Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, L&T, and Hindalco, while Sun Pharma, JSW Steel, Cipla, Asian Paints, and TCS were among the major losers.

Adding to the intrigue of Friday's session is the commencement of earnings season for Nifty 50 companies, kickstarted by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) reporting its quarterly results after market hours.

Additionally, the Indian Rupee started the trading day 16 paise lower at 83.35 per Dollar compared to Wednesday's closing rate of 83.19.
