Stock Market Open On Saturday: NSE To Hold Special Trading Session; Can Investors BUY/SELL?

The Indian stock market is going to be open for a few hours on Saturday, September 28, 2024, as part of the special trading session. However, it will be only NSE who is conducting this special trading session, and not BSE. Hence, only one market will be opened. The session is to test the T+0 settlement type for buying or selling market-related instruments.

As per the NSE notification, the Exchange shall be conducting trading sessions (Mock & Live) from its Disaster Recovery (DR) site on September 28, 2024 (mock trading) and September 30 to October 01, 2024 (Live trading).

It further said, "Members are requested to note that the Exchange Contingency Tests shall be carried out between
12:00 PM to 01:00 PM for mock trading on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Members are requested to plan their activities accordingly."

The schedule for the special session on September 28 are:

Morning Block Deal Window Session 1 - start time 09.45 hours to 10:00 hours.

Pre-Open: 10:00 hours to 10:08 hours.

Special Pre-Open Session: 10:00 hrs to 10:45 hrs

Normal Market/Odd lot: 10:15 hrs to 15:30 hrs.

Normal market open time for stocks in special pre-open sessions: 11:00 hours to 15:30 hours.

T+0 Market: 10:15 hours to 13:30 hours.

T+0 Market trade modification: 10:15 hours to 13:45 hours.

Call Auction Illiquid session (5 sessions of 1 hour each): 10:30 hours to 15:30 hours.

Afternoon Block Deal Window Session 2: 11:30 hours to 11:45 hours.

Auction Market: 11:15 hours to 12:00 hours.

Closing Session: 15:40 hours to 15:50 hours.

Trade Modification: 10:15 hours to 16:00 hours.

Re-Login time: 19:00 hours to 19:30 hours.

Can You BUY/SELL in stocks, and mutual funds on September 28?

Here's what NSE has guided investors:

- Trades resulting from the mock trading session on Saturday, September 28, 2024, shall not attract any obligation in terms of funds and/or securities pay-in and/or pay-out. Kindly do not transfer any data files for this session.

- Since there is a mock session scheduled on September 28, 2024, the UCCs added or modified during the mock session on September 28, 2024, shall not be considered valid for the live trading session on September 30, 2024, onwards. These records shall be purged from the UCC system of the Exchange, by the end of the day.

- Members are requested to note that NOTIS application shall be during mock trading session -2.

- Unique Client Code (UCC) will not be validated for the Order entry during contingency time if any.

- Members may choose to participate either in Mock Trading Session or Simulated environment for fulfilling their regulatory requirements in accordance to SEBI circular.

- All members eligible to trade in the CM segment in the live market are enabled to participate in the mock trading
sessions with their existing user IDs, IP and Box ID mapping that of the live environment.

Notably, the T+O settlement was introduced by Sebi in March 2024. And following this, NSE has carried two special live sessions on March 2, and May 18, making the current mock session on September 28 the third one in 2024.

The T+0 settlement cycle is a part of the capital market segment. Settlement of trades shall happen on the same day after the closure of the T+0 market. Also, T+0 will bring advantages like same-day receipt of funds and securities to the investor.
