Owing to the Maharashtra government declaring a public holiday on January 22 on account of Ram Mandir's inauguration in Ayodhya, the stock exchanges have announced to conduct a regular trading session on Saturday, January 20, 2024, instead of a couple of hours of special session which was the case earlier.
In an overnight, BSE and NSE went from preparing to conduct a special live trading session on Saturday to holding a full-fledged session and a holiday on January 22.

Maharashtra government declared a public holiday under section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, allowing citizens to celebrate the ceremony of Ram Lalla's temple in Ayodhya, situated at the banks of Sarayu River in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
BSE and NSE are headquartered in the country's financial hub Mumbai.
Following this, NSE in its circular said, "Members are requested to note that Exchange shall be conducting regular trading sessions on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from the primary site in Equity and Equity Derivatives segments as per regular market timings."
It added, "Price bands applicable for Normal trading day shall continue to remain applicable on January 20, 2024."
Earlier, BSE and NSE were going to conduct a special trading session as part of Sebi's direction for Market Infrastructure Intermediaries (MIIs) to carry out test and live trading sessions for the switchover of functionality from the primary site to their Disaster Recovery site (DRS).
The special trading session was different from normal market hours. It was going to be carried out in two sessions. The First was trading on the primary site, and the second session was trading for DRS.
Previously, Shiju Koothupalakkal, Technical Analyst at Prabhudas Lilladher said, "There will be two trading sessions the first from 9:15 am to 10 am for live trading from the primary site and from 11:30-12:30 pm from the disaster recovery site. Securities including stocks having futures and options (F&O) contracts will have upper and lower circuit limits fixed at 5 per cent. Securities with a 2 per cent upper and lower circuit limit will continue to have a 2 per cent limit."
