Indian Stock Market Outlook Aug 31-Sept 4: Sensex, Nifty Likely To Remain Volatile; Global Triggers in Focus

Indian benchmark indices are heading into the new trading week with caution after the Nifty and Sensex extended their losing streak to three consecutive weeks. While large-cap stocks remained under pressure, the broader market continued to show resilience, with both the Nifty Smallcap and Midcap indices reaching fresh record highs. The divergence points to continued investor interest in select stocks despite weakness in the benchmark indices.

Stock Market Outlook Next Week, August 31- September 4, 2026: Sensex, Nifty Weekly Prediction

The Nifty declined 0.31% during the week to end at 24,175.65, while the Sensex fell 0.36% to settle at 77,264. The continued weakness in frontline indices came amid mixed global signals, elevated US bond yields and sustained foreign investor selling.

However, the broader market remained relatively stronger. The Nifty Smallcap index touched a fresh all-time high, while the Midcap index also closed at a record level. This suggests that domestic investors continue to find opportunities beyond large-cap stocks, helping limit the broader market impact of foreign fund outflows.

What Will Drive Stock Market Next Week; Check Key Factors

Global economic developments are likely to remain a major influence on Indian equities during August 31 to September 4. Investors will closely monitor inflation trends in the US, Federal Reserve policy signals, bond yields, crude oil prices and developments in global trade and geopolitics.

The US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, increased 0.2% in July against expectations of a 0.1% rise. The annual reading rose to 3.7%, while core PCE remained at 3.3% year-on-year. Consumer spending was flat, providing some relief to policymakers even as inflation remains a concern.

The latest inflation numbers could influence expectations around the Fed's future interest-rate decisions. Any indication that inflation remains persistent could keep US Treasury yields elevated and put pressure on emerging-market equities, including India.

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole Speech in Focus

The Jackson Hole symposium was another major event for global markets. New Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh delivered his first keynote address but stopped short of providing clear forward guidance or outlining a specific reaction function for future monetary policy.

Instead, Warsh highlighted the resilience of the US economy and the productivity gains associated with artificial intelligence. He also attributed the recent slowdown in hiring to a flattening labour supply.

The absence of clear guidance kept bond markets cautious, with the US 10-year Treasury yield remaining elevated at 4.73%. Higher US yields can influence foreign capital flows towards emerging markets and remain an important factor for Indian equities.

Crude Oil, Rupee and FII-DII Flows

Crude oil prices declined nearly 5% during the week to $90.60, snapping a two-week winning streak. A sustained decline in oil prices could provide some relief to India because the country remains heavily dependent on crude imports.

The rupee appreciated 0.34% to 95.36 during the week. Currency movements will remain important for foreign investors as well as sectors sensitive to the dollar, including IT, oil and gas and companies with significant overseas exposure.

Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers for the second consecutive week, selling equities worth Rs 2,060 crore. Domestic institutional investors, however, provided strong support by purchasing shares worth Rs 19,310 crore.

Nifty Prediction Next Week, 31 Aug- 4 Sept, 2026: Check Key Technical Outlook

The Nifty ended its third straight week in negative territory, but technical indicators suggest that the index is still holding important support levels. The index remains close to its 21-week EMA and the support offered by its ascending trendline.

"The immediate horizontal support is placed at 24,000, and a sustained breach below this level could trigger further weakness towards 23,800. On the upside, 24,400 remains a key resistance zone; a decisive breakout above it may open the way towards 24,600. With Nifty currently trading near its ascending trendline support, the risk-reward setup remains favourable for the bulls. The outlook for next week remains positive, with a buy-on-dips strategy preferred while key supports hold," said Dr. Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer from Master Capital Services Ltd.

Thus, the 24,000 mark could become an important level for the Nifty during the week of August 31 to September 4. Holding above this zone could encourage buying on declines, while a decisive break below it may increase selling pressure.

On the upside, 24,400 remains the first major hurdle. A sustained breakout above this level could pave the way for a move towards 24,600.

Bank Nifty Outlook: Check 57,000-58,500 Levels

Bank Nifty also remained under pressure, declining 0.46% during the week. Despite the fall, the index continues to trade within its broader consolidation range, with technical support helping limit downside momentum.

The 55-day EMA remains an important support for Bank Nifty and has repeatedly cushioned declines. The 57,000-57,200 region is also emerging as a crucial horizontal support zone for the index.

"As long as the index sustains above this zone, the buy-on-dips strategy remains favourable. On the upside, 58000 is acting as a key resistance area. A decisive breakout above 58000 would strengthen the bullish setup and could trigger further upward momentum towards 58500 in the near term," said Dr. Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer from Master Capital Services Ltd.

For the coming week, Bank Nifty's ability to hold above 57,000-57,200 could therefore remain crucial. A move beyond 58,000 would improve the near-term technical outlook and could take the index towards 58,500, while weakness below support could extend the consolidation towards lower levels.
