Stock Market Weekly Wrap: Sensex, Nifty End In Green Amid Iran-US War, Crude Surge, Rupee Slide

Stock Market Today: The Nifty and Sensex ended the week with modest gains after witnessing sharp volatility over the past five trading sessions. Investor sentiment remained fragile, weighed down by escalating Iran-US tensions in West Asia, a surge in crude oil prices, concerns over global energy supply disruptions, and a sharp fall in the domestic currency.

Nifty 50 was up close to 1.1%, whereas BSE Sensex was also up more than 1.5% in the early trading session on Friday. However, the benchmark indices failed to hold on to their gains, as Nifty 50 closed 112 points higher at 23114 points. Whereas, BSE Sensex closed marginally above at 74,532.

Stock Market Today

While the Indian stock market closed in the green on Friday, the Nifty and Sensex failed to fully recover from the sharp losses recorded over the week. The benchmark indices saw a strong rebound in the first half of the week, but Thursday's 3.3% decline erased most of those gains, bringing the market back close to its levels at the start of Monday, March 16.

Stock Market Closing: Top Gainers, Losers

Tata Steel and JSW Steel were among the top gainers of the Friday's trading session.
Reliance Industries Limited was one of the top Nifty 50 gainers on March 20 with 2.08% jump. Tech Mahindra, Coal India, Infosys, HCL Tech, Bajaj Trent were among the top Nifty 50 gainers.

Hindalco, HDFC Bank, Shriram Finance, HDFC Life, ONGC, BEL, etc were among the top Nifty 50 losers of the day.

Stock Market Weekly Performance Amid Iran-US War Tensions, Crude Oil Price

In terms of weekly performance, the Nifty and Sensex ended the week flat after last week's carnage driven by concerns around the Iran-US war. Nifty Auto, Nifty Bank, and realty stocks were among the top casualties in the stock market crash during that period. Nifty Auto, which had fallen more than 6% last week, saw a sharp recovery this time and emerged as the top gainer among the indices.

Nifty 50 and Sensex declined nearly 0.5% in the week, falling between March 16-March 20. This week's decline came after the benchmark indices fell close to 5% in the last week. With this, Sensex has declined around 10%.
