Stock Markets Open Flat; Auto Stocks Surge
Amid thin trading in a holiday truncated week, Indian benchmark indices started the trading day on Tuesday on a flat note with Sensex down marginally by 14.54 points or 0.03% at 41628.12, while the Nifty was up up 0.90 points or 0.01% at 12263.70.
Leading the set of gainers are stocks such as Yes Bank, Zee Entertainment, Grasim, Tata Motors, while losers include RIL, Axis Bank, Sun Pharma , Bajaj Finserv.
Auto stocks gained in early trade with stocks such as Hero Motocorp, M&M and Maruti up as much as 0.5%.
Chalet Hotels share price surged 5% after the company signed a franshise agreement with Hyatt India Consultancy.
Meanwhile, stock markets in several countries are either shut or set for an early close today due to Christmas festivity.
Rupee also opened lower at 71.21 against its previous session's close of 71.17 per US dollar.
