Benchmark indices are looking towards a weaker start on Monday, August 31st, as fresh geopolitical tension in West Asia and hawkish signals from the US Federal Reserve triggered the global sentiment. Stocks To Watch Today

At the end of trading on Friday, the Nifty slipped 0.31% to settle at 24,175.65, while the Sensex shed 0.36% to close at 77,264. Meanwhile the Nifty Smallcap index scaled a fresh all-time high and the Midcap index also closed at a record.

"Nifty ended the third consecutive week in the red, declining 0.31%, but the index is currently holding near its 21-week EMA and the support of its ascending trendline. The immediate horizontal support is placed at 24,000, and a sustained breach below this level could trigger further weakness towards 23,800. On the upside, 24,400 remains a key resistance zone; a decisive breakout above it may open the way towards 24,600." said Ravi Singh, Chief Research Officer from Master Capital Services Ltd.

Two big triggers are going to impact the market today. First, the US Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh, speaking at the Jackson Hole Symposium, adopted a hawkish tone that has reignited worries about a possible rate hike as early as next month.

Another reason is the rising crude oil prices which climbed more than 1% to $85 per barrel after the US struck Iranian rocket launchers on the island of Larak on Sunday.

Wall Street closed lower on Friday witt the S&P 500 slipped 0.25% to settle at 7,711.76, the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.52% to 26,402.42, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped down 0.02% to 53,559.99.

Asian markets are bearing the brunt of this cautious mood on Monday morning. At the time of writing Japan's Nikkei 225 was trading around 1.8% lower, while South Korea's Kospi tumbled as much as 2.4-2.5%.
