Just a day before the FPO debut, Vodafone Idea's share price had closed lower at Rs 13.10 apiece on the NSE. This contrasted sharply with the enthusiastic response witnessed during the subscription period.

The FPO, which commenced on Thursday, April 18, and concluded on Monday, April 22, was met with overwhelming demand from investors. Vodafone Idea managed to raise Rs 18,000 crore, making it India's largest-ever FPO. The subscription was nearly seven times oversubscribed, with institutional investors leading the charge. Non-institutional investors subscribed 4.54 times, while qualified institutional buyers sought 19.31 times the shares offered.

Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group and a key promoter of Vodafone Idea, expressed delight at the resounding success of the FPO. During the listing ceremony, he emphasized the substantial oversubscription as a testament to the immense potential of India's digital landscape and Vodafone's role within it. Birla also lauded the strong participation from both domestic and foreign investors, highlighting the complete subscription of the retail component as particularly impressive.

The grey market premium (GMP) for Vodafone Idea FPO stood at Rs 1.40, indicating investors' willingness to pay a premium over the issue price. Market analysts predict that the fresh shares issued under the FPO could debut at Rs 12.4, marking a gain of 12.73% over the upper limit of the price band.

As of the latest trading session, Vodafone Idea shares were trading with minor gains of 0.50% at Rs 13.15 per share on the BSE. Notably, the stock has witnessed a surge of nearly 110% over the past year.
