Sun Petrochemicals Signs MoU with Telangana Government for Rs 45,500 Crore Pumped Storage Hydro Power Projects

Sun Petrochemicals has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government to establish extensive pumped storage hydro power projects. This initiative, valued at Rs 45,000 crore, is one of the largest investment deals in the region. The projects will be located in Nagarkurnool, Mancherial, and Mulugu districts, aiming to generate 7,000 jobs over time, according to a state government release.

Sun Petrochemicals and Telangana Government MoU

The combined capacity of these projects will reach 3,400 MW. They will be supported by integrated solar power plants with a capacity of 5,440 MW. The total estimated investment for this venture is Rs 45,500 crore. During the construction phase, it is expected to create over 7,000 jobs, significantly boosting the socio-economic development of Telangana.

Investment and Job Creation in Telangana

The agreement was formalised during the World Economic Forum in Davos. Telangana's government is committed to diversifying its investment base across various sectors. This includes services, manufacturing, and both innovation-based and conventional industries. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated that this initiative will generate numerous jobs for local youth and bring transformative changes to Nagarkurnool, Mancherial, and Mulugu.

The collaboration focuses on efficiently utilising renewable energy resources to meet energy demands while supporting Telangana's transition to green energy. Dilip Shanghvi, Managing Director of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and Sun Petrochemicals, remarked on Telangana's growing appeal as an investment hub under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's leadership over the past year.

Shanghvi expressed confidence that this landmark agreement will significantly impact not only Telangana but also the entire nation due to the importance of green energy for the economy and society. Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu welcomed the agreement, highlighting that it resulted from nearly a year of diligent efforts involving multiple discussions and meetings.
