Surya Grahan 2025: Date, Time, Where And How To Watch The Solar Eclipse Live?

Surya Grahan: The morning of Saturday will witness a stellar event, where the moon will appear before the sun, casting a shadow and blocking the full appearance of the Sun on the earth. This celestial event is called a partially Solar Eclipse because the sun will be partially blocked. The event is going to take place in parts of the Northern Hemisphere, and hence would not be visible from India.

Surya Grahan 2025 Date:

The partial solar eclipse will take place on March 29, at around 2:20:43 PM Indian Standard Time. It will last around four hours; hence, its maximum eclipse will be at 4:17:27 PM. The event will end at 6:13:45 PM.

Surya Grahan

In regions of the Northern Hemisphere such as the USA, Greenland, Canada, Europe, Russia, and London among others, will begin before sunrise. Here is the time:

New York, New York (USA): Partial Begin Time: 6:44 a.m. Maximum at 6:46 a.m., and partial ends at 7:04 a.m.

Washington, D.C. (USA): Begins at 6:56 a.m.; will be maximum at 6:59 a.m., and the ending time is at 7:01 a.m.

Berlin (Germany): Beginning time is at 11:32 a.m; while the maximum time is at 12:19 p.m., and the ending time is at 1:07 p.m.

London (U.K.): The beginning time is at 10:07 a.m, while the maximum time is at 11:03 a.m., and ending time is at noon.

About Partial Eclipse:

According to NASA, on March 29, 2025, the Moon will pass in front of and partially block the Sun, casting a shadow on parts of the Northern Hemisphere. The central part of the Moon's shadow, where the Sun would appear completely blocked, misses Earth, so no one will be able to see a total solar eclipse this time. Everyone watching the eclipse must use proper eye protection or an indirect viewing method to protect their eyes.

NASA directed that viewers will see a partial solar eclipse in sections of North America, Europe, Africa, northern Asia, small parts of South America, throughout Greenland and Iceland, as well as much of the Atlantic and Arctic oceans.

Furthermore, NASA said that in much of the Americas, including the northeastern United States, the partial solar eclipse will already be in progress during sunrise. In western Europe and northwestern Africa, the eclipse will begin in the mid- to late morning. In eastern Europe and northern Asia, most or all of the eclipse will occur in the afternoon or early evening.

What Safety Measures To Take?

Here are big measures to protect your eyes when watching the Partial Solar Eclipse, as per NASA:

When watching a partial solar eclipse directly with your eyes, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses ("eclipse glasses") or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times.

Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun. Safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and ought to comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard. NASA does not approve any particular brand of solar viewers.

Do NOT look at the Sun through a camera lens, telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while wearing eclipse glasses or using a handheld solar viewer - the concentrated solar rays will burn through the filter and cause serious eye injury. A special-purpose solar filter must be attached to the front of any telescope, binoculars, camera lens, or other optics to observe the Sun safely.

If you don't have eclipse glasses or a handheld solar viewer, you can use an indirect viewing method, which does not involve looking directly at the Sun. One way is to use a pinhole projector, which has a small opening (for example, a hole punched in an index card) and projects an image of the Sun onto a nearby surface.
