Himachal Pradesh Industries Minister Urges Stringent Action Against Illegal Mining Activities

Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan has instructed officials to take firm measures against illegal mining activities. He highlighted that areas such as Nalagarh, Una, Nurpur, and Paonta Sahib are particularly vulnerable to this issue. During a meeting focused on reviewing mining activities in the state, he expressed concern over the ongoing illegal trade, noting that violators are circumventing check posts by using alternative routes.

Action Against Illegal Mining in Himachal Pradesh

To combat illegal mining, the state government has implemented several initiatives. Check posts have been established at various locations to monitor and control the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. The minister emphasised the importance of scientific and proper exploitation of resources to meet the growing demand for raw materials needed for developmental projects like road construction and other domestic requirements.

Monitoring and Revenue Generation

Minister Chauhan directed mining officers to conduct regular inspections of mining sites. He stressed the need for granting more leases for mines to generate revenue and curb illegal mining activities. By increasing legal mining operations, the state aims to reduce unlawful practices while boosting its income from mineral resources.

The minister also urged officials to expedite the auction process for limestone mines located in Arki in Solan district, Sunni in Shimla, and Baroh Sindh in Chamba. This move is expected to enhance resource utilisation and contribute to the state's economic growth.

Chauhan remarked on the unfortunate persistence of illegal mining despite efforts to control it. He pointed out that violators are finding ways around established check posts, which necessitates plugging these alternate routes effectively. The minister's directives aim to strengthen enforcement measures and ensure compliance with mining regulations.

The demand for raw materials continues to rise due to various developmental needs. Therefore, strict implementation of mining rules is crucial for sustainable resource management. The state government remains committed to addressing these challenges through strategic planning and enforcement actions.

Efforts are underway to address illegal mining through comprehensive strategies and increased vigilance. By focusing on both prevention and legal avenues for resource extraction, the state aims to balance developmental needs with environmental protection.
