Tamil Nadu Budget 2026 Live Updates:Oilseed Cultivation Expansion Gets Rs. 229 Crore Support in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu is presenting the Interim Budget for 2026-27 in the State Legislative Assembly today, February 17, setting the stage ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The interim financial statement is expected to prioritise the continuation of major welfare programmes, increase infrastructure spending, and maintaining uninterrupted public services during the election period keeping in view the fiscal stability

A day earlier, the Tamil Nadu Economic Survey 2025-26 was submitted to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, showing that the State's per capita income growth has consistently exceeded the national average. The survey also projected that Tamil Nadu could reach the one-trillion-dollar economy milestone by 2031 if it sustains the 16% nominal growth rate recorded in 2024-25.
With elections nearing, the interim budget is widely expected to emphasise major welfare measures and higher allocations for existing flagship schemes, rather than introduce entirely new large-scale projects. The Finance Minister is also scheduled to present the Vote-on-Account for 2026-27 along with Supplementary Estimates for 2025-26 on February 20.
