Tata To Give 'Make in India' Boost To Rafale; Set To Produce Dassault’s Flagship Jet Fuselage in Hyderabad

Tata Advanced Systems Limited has joined hands with France-based Dassault to manufacture Rafale fighter aircraft fuselage in India. The companies have also signed four production transfer agreements to manufacture the aircraft.

Rafale fighter jet manufacturing capabilities in India is likely to boost India's aerospace infrastructure and will also boost government's 'Make in India' initiative.

Tata Advanced Systems will set up a manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. The unit will produce key structural sections of the Rafale including the lateral shells of the rear fuselage, the complete rear section, the central fuselage, and the front section. "This partnership marks a significant step in India's aerospace journey. The production of the complete Rafale fuselage in India underscores the deepening trust in Tata Advanced Systems' capabilities and the strength of our collaboration with Dassault Aviation. It also reflects the remarkable progress India has made in establishing a modern, robust aerospace manufacturing ecosystem that can support global platforms," said Sukaran Singh, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Tata Advanced Systems Limited.

Boost To 'Make in India'

Dassault Aviation's agrement with Tata Advanced Systems Limited will give an impetus to 'Make in India' initiative of the central government, said Dassault in its press release on Thursday.

"For the first time, Rafale fuselages will be produced outside France. This is a decisive step in strengthening our supply chain in India. Thanks to the expansion of our local partners, including TASL, one of the major players in the Indian aerospace industry, this supply chain will contribute to the successful ramp-up of the Rafale, and, with our support, will meet our quality and competitiveness requirements", said Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation.

About Rafale

Rafale is a twin-jet fighter aircraft with high-speed capabilities to operate from both an aircraft carrier and a shore base. The fully versatile fighter aircraft is a multicapability jet which is able to carry out all combat aviation operations. The aircraft is also capable of air superiority and air defense, close air support, in-depth strikes, reconnaissance, anti-ship strikes and nuclear deterrence.

The fighter jet was deployed in the French Navy in 2004 and with French Air Force in 2006. India currently deployes around 36 Rafales, according to Dassault's official website. Additionally, Egypt has deployed around 55 Rafales, Qatar has deployed around 36 Rafales, Greece has deployed around 12 ex-French aircraft and 12 new-built Rafales, Croatia has deployed 12 ex-French Rafales, UAE has deployed 80 standard Rafale. Indonesia has 42 Rafales.
