In a recent interaction, TCS Chairman N. Chandrasekaran addressed concerns regarding the rise in sexual harassment cases within the company, emphasizing education over remote work as a solution. During the fiscal year 2024, TCS reported 110 sexual harassment complaints, a significant increase from 49 in the previous year. Despite this rise, Chandrasekaran highlighted that these numbers are relatively low considering the company's vast workforce of 600,000 employees.

Chandrasekaran, who also leads the Tata Group, dismissed the idea of reverting to remote working arrangements as a means to combat sexual harassment. Instead, he underscored the importance of educational initiatives to mitigate such incidents. Furthermore, he revealed plans to enhance gender diversity at TCS, aiming to exceed the current 36% female workforce representation, particularly in senior management roles.
The chairman also clarified TCS's commitment to career development over mere job creation, indicating a strategic focus on building a robust institution. This approach is evident in the company's employment statistics, which include 30,312 contract workers alongside its permanent staff. Chandrasekaran noted a decrease in overall employee attrition rates, signaling a positive trend in workforce stability.
On the financial front, TCS's capital expenditure for FY24 was reported at Rs 2,650 crore, with projections for increased spending in future years as pandemic-related impacts subside. The allocation included Rs 1,100 crore towards technologies and Rs 1,550 crore on physical infrastructure to accommodate more employees returning to office settings. Additionally, TCS invested Rs 2,750 crore in research and innovation.
While refraining from setting specific business targets, Chandrasekaran expressed optimism about surpassing FY24's performance in revenue growth and profit margins. He also highlighted the ongoing relevance of IT spending amidst global uncertainties and anticipated a rise in tech investments across industries.
TCS is actively working on completing the BSNL 4G contract worth over Rs 15,000 crore within FY25, with more than 10,000 sites already operational. Chandrasekaran assured stakeholders that geopolitical events and visa issues are not expected to impact TCS adversely.
In response to inquiries about potential involvement in rectifying electoral roll discrepancies in India, Chandrasekaran affirmed TCS's willingness to engage in critical national projects. This commitment aligns with the company's track record of contributing to significant initiatives.
Overall, TCS's strategic focus encompasses enhancing workplace safety through education, increasing diversity within its workforce, and investing in technology and infrastructure for sustained growth. The company remains resilient amidst external challenges while contributing to important national projects.
