In a bid to guide young professionals who embarked on their careers during the pandemic, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is extending a helping hand as they transition back to the office environment.
For many, the return to office life is an entirely novel experience, and TCS acknowledges the challenges of this change. The key to 'bringing their best self to work,' according to TCS, lies in adhering to a formal dress code. It's a gentle reminder that the days of lounging in shorts and t-shirts while working from home are now a thing of the past.

In a recent email to its employees, Milind Lakkad, TCS' Chief Human Resource Officer, shared the company's anticipation of having all its associates return to the office for full working weeks. He emphasized the significance of this transition, especially for the large number of associates who have joined within the last two years, primarily operating in a virtual or hybrid mode. Lakkad underscored the importance of working from the office as a means to internalize TCS' values and culture.
Lakkad further emphasized that maintaining the highest standards of professionalism is essential when working in the office. This extends beyond tasks and responsibilities and includes the way employees present themselves and represent the organization. This, he explained, is instrumental in making the right impression on stakeholders on a global scale. To provide clear guidance on these matters, TCS has introduced a comprehensive dress code policy.
TCS' dress code policy delineates expectations for office attire. From Monday to Thursday, associates are required to wear business casuals, including tucked-in full-sleeved shirts with trousers for men and business dresses for women. On special formal occasions such as seminars, summits, and client visits, business formals are the prescribed attire. Fridays, however, allow for a more relaxed dress code, permitting smart casuals like half-sleeved shirts, turtlenecks, khakis/chinos, Kurti, and salwar for women.
Industry analysts highlight that for many freshers who joined IT companies in the past 2-3 years, the office environment is a new and unexplored territory. These individuals, predominantly recent college graduates, may not be familiar with the nuances of formal work attire. TCS' initiative is not merely about enforcing a dress code; it's about facilitating a smooth transition, bolstering confidence, and helping employees feel poised and professional as they navigate their way in the corporate world.
