Tech Layoffs 2026: Over 200 Job Cuts Hit Apple Siri, AI & Vision Pro Teams; Smart Glasses Now in Focus

Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs across teams working on Siri, artificial intelligence and the Vision Pro headset, as the technology giant reshapes its workforce around new product priorities. The move affects selected teams rather than being a company-wide layoff.

Apple Job Cuts: Siri and AI Teams See Major Changes

According to a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter, around 100 jobs are being cut from the Vision Pro organisation, while more than 100 positions are being affected across Siri and related software teams. Apple is also expected to create new positions as part of the restructuring.

Tech Layoffs 2026

The changes come as Apple works to make Siri more advanced and useful. The company is developing a new technical system for Siri that could allow the voice assistant to handle more complex tasks and requests.

Siri has become an important part of Apple's AI plans as competitors continue to introduce powerful AI assistants. Apple has also been adding artificial intelligence features to the iPhone, iPad and Mac through its Apple Intelligence platform.

Apple Vision Pro Job Cuts: Why Is Apple Reducing Staff?

Apple is also reducing jobs in its Vision Pro business. The headset, launched in 2024, was introduced as a new way of experiencing apps, entertainment and digital content through mixed reality.

However, the Vision Pro has struggled to reach a mass audience. Its high price and bulky design have made it a product mainly targeted at premium consumers, businesses and technology enthusiasts.

Around 100 positions are reportedly being removed from the Vision Pro organisation. Some of the affected teams are linked to gaming and immersive video content. Immersive video has been one of the key features used by Apple to promote the Vision Pro. The headset can display specially produced videos that give users a more immersive viewing experience.

However, producing this type of content can be expensive because it requires specialised cameras, equipment and production teams. With the Vision Pro user base still relatively small, Apple appears to be looking for ways to reduce the cost of creating such content.

The company is expected to depend more on outside producers for immersive video instead of doing as much production internally. This would allow Apple to continue supporting Vision Pro content while reducing some of its in-house expenses.

Apple Smart Glasses: What Could Come Next?

Smart glasses could become an important part of Apple's future wearable strategy if the company can make them affordable and comfortable enough for everyday users.

Apple is also reportedly considering a future Vision Pro model. A new version could focus on improving some of the current headset's biggest challenges, including its weight, price and overall comfort. This means the company may be narrowing its current Vision Pro investment while continuing to work on the longer-term future of spatial computing.
