Crude palm oil import duty and RFCL urea allocation raised by Telangana ahead of kharif

Telangana has asked the Centre to restore crude palm oil import duty on CPO to 44 per cent and to allocate urea from the Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited plant exclusively to the state ahead of kharif sowing. The state also sought support for a Zaheerabad logistics hub tied to industrial investment plans.

Telangana has asked the Centre to raise the import duty on crude palm oil back to 44 per cent. The state also sought exclusive urea supply from the Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL) plant. Officials said the requests came ahead of the kharif sowing season, when farm input demand usually rises.

Telangana presses Centre on kharif

State IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu raised the demands in New Delhi. The issues were discussed during a meeting with Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal, an official statement said. Telangana linked the requests to farm stability and farmer incomes during the next cropping cycle.

Crude palm oil import duty and oil palm farmers

On crude palm oil (CPO), Telangana asked for the import duty to be restored to 44 per cent. The current duty is 10 per cent, according to the statement. Sridhar Babu said a higher tariff was needed to protect the livelihoods of oil palm farmers. The state framed the issue as support for domestic growers.

RFCL urea allocation and kharif sowing season

On fertilisers, the minister requested that urea produced at the RFCL plant be allocated only to Telangana. The minister referred to supply disruptions the state faced last year. The statement said exclusive allocation would help ensure a stable urea supply. Telangana said this was important before kharif sowing begins.

Telangana Rising Vision 2047 and industrial planning

Sridhar Babu also used the meeting to outline a wider industrial agenda under Telanganas Rising Vision 2047. The state sought support for a logistics hub at Zaheerabads Industrial Smart City. Telangana said the Hyundai Group has committed Rs 8,500 crore there. The investment is for a Global Innovation and R&D Centre.

Bhavya scheme plug-and-play industrial parks and approvals

The minister told Goyal that Telangana is preparing Detailed Project Reports for plug-and-play industrial parks. The plan covers 15- 20 parks under Phase-1 of the Bhavya scheme. Telangana asked the Centre to clear approvals within the June-July 2026 application window. Officials said the timeline is key for the first phase rollout.

Multi-Modal Logistics Park and Aero-Defence Corridor proposals

Other proposals included an Aero-Defence Corridor for the state and two mega leather parks. The leather parks were sought under the Mega Leather, Footwear, and Accessories Cluster Development (MLFACD) scheme. Telangana also asked for central clearance for a Rs 2,050-crore Multi-Modal Logistics Park at Manoharabad. The park is in Medak district and is being developed with NHLML.

The official statement said Telangana placed both farm and industry demands before the Centre. The state requested a higher CPO duty and RFCL-linked urea allocation for the kharif season. It also sought support for logistics, industrial parks, and sector clusters. The pending proposals include projects at Zaheerabad, Manoharabad, and under the Bhavya and MLFACD schemes.
