The Department of Telecom has issued a warning to its staff against using political or external influence for service-related issues, as stated in an office memorandum released on Wednesday. The memo highlights that any reference from Members of Parliament or other dignitaries will be assumed to have been solicited by the employees, and such cases will be handled according to service rules.

Prohibition of Political Influence
The memorandum points out that some government employees are trying to sway decisions related to their services, especially concerning transfers and postings, by seeking political or external backing. This includes attempts through relatives or wards, which violates Rule 20 of the CCS Conduct Rules, 1964. This rule explicitly forbids bringing or attempting to bring political or outside influence into such matters.
Consequences for Violations
Employees were reminded about the government's stance under Rule 20. A first-time violation results in formal advice, while a second breach leads to a written warning being recorded. Further violations trigger disciplinary proceedings under the CCS CCA Rules, 1965. The memorandum advises all ITS officers to avoid such practices and not to use political or external influence directly or through relatives for service matters, particularly regarding transfers and postings.
Advisory for Employees
The Department of Telecom has urged its employees to resolve issues through the designated official channels only. Any breach of these rules will be taken very seriously, and those responsible will face strict disciplinary action, as stated in the memorandum.
