Karnataka weather is expected to be rainy ahead as several parts of Karnataka recorded light to moderate rainfall over the past 24 hours, even as minimum temperatures dropped significantly across the state, indicating cold wave-like conditions in many districts.

According to IMD data recorded between 8.30 am on January 14 and 7.30 am on January 15, rainfall activity was mainly confined to the Malnad region, parts of coastal Karnataka, and adjoining interior districts, while north and south interior Karnataka experienced chilly nights and early morning fog.
Rainfall pattern across Karnataka districts
Hassan district recorded the highest rainfall in the state, with 40.5 mm measured at Alur-Karagodu. Udupi followed, with 25 mm at Karkala-Nallur. Shivamogga's Kudli, Mandya's Krishnarajpet-Sarangi both reported 21 mm of rain, while another station in Hassan (Alur-Magge) logged 20.5 mm.
Moderate rainfall ranging between 10 mm and 19.5 mm was reported from parts of Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Belagavi, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Mandya districts. Somwarpet in Kodagu, several stations in Chikkamagaluru including Sringeri and Mudigere, and Khanapur taluk in Belagavi district also recorded measurable rainfall.
Meteorologists said the rainfall in Karnataka was largely due to localized weather systems affecting the Western Ghats region and adjoining districts, which usually happens during this time of year, though not widespread enough to alter the overall dry seasonal trend.
Minimum temperatures dip sharply
While rainfall was scattered, the most major change in karnataka weather was the sharp dip in minimum temperatures, particularly across interior Karnataka. Chitradurga recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 10.1 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest district in the state during the observation period.
Kolar followed with 11.5°C, while Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, and Bengaluru Urban recorded minimum temperatures ranging between 13.4°C and 14.3°C. Mysuru also reported a minimum of 14.3°C, while Hassan, Kodagu, and Tumakuru hovered around 14.6°C.
Northern districts such as Belagavi, Shivamogga, Mandya, and Bidar recorded minimum temperatures between 15°C and 16°C, while coastal districts remained relatively warmer. Udupi recorded the highest minimum temperature at 21.5°C, followed by Dakshina Kannada at 20.9°C.
Bengaluru weather update
In the state capital, Bengaluru weather experienced hazy sunshine on Thursday, with the current temperature hovering around 22°C.
Forecast for the coming days
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted karnataka weather to remain dry across Karnataka for the next few days, with no major rainfall activity expected. However, cold conditions are likely to persist, especially during night and early morning hours.
Scattered morning fog may occur in interior districts, particularly in low-lying areas and river basins, which could affect visibility during early hours. Residents have been advised to take precautions against the cold, especially the elderly and children.
With winter conditions continuing to dominate, the state is expected to see cool nights and mild daytime temperatures, typical of mid-January weather patterns in Karnataka.
