The Odyssey Box Office Day 1 India: Nolan's Epic Nets Rs. 17.40 Crore, Beats Oppenheimer's Opening
Christopher Nolan's mythological epic The Odyssey hit the screens on Friday with a strong opening day at the box office in India, collecting a net of Rs. 17.40 crore across 8,413 shows on Day 1, with an overall occupancy of 48.7%.

The film is Nolan's first release since his Oscar-winning Oppenheimer. The movie arrived in Indian theatres across four languages English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu with strong pre-release buzz and record-breaking advance bookings in premium formats.
Advance bookings alone were reported to have crossed Rs. 10 crore gross, including block bookings, with premium formats such as IMAX and 4DX seeing exceptional demand.
English Version Leads
The film's opening was driven almost entirely by its original English version. English shows brought in Rs. 13.75 crore, nearly 79% of the film's total Day 1 net from 4,401 shows with a 77% occupancy as per data from Salcnik.
The dubbed versions in Hindi are getting the second-highest show count at 2,851, managing only Rs. 1.90 crore at a modest 13% occupancy
Telugu collected Rs. 1.10 crore from 675 shows at 30% occupancy, while Tamil brought in Rs. 0.65 crore from 486 shows at 28% occupancy.
Odyssey Vs Oppenheimer
Nolan's previous film, Oppenheimer, opened in India on July 21, 2023, with a Day 1 net collection of approximately Rs. 14.50 crore across 5,565 shows, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.
The Odyssey's Rs. 17.40 crore Day 1 net comfortably surpasses that mark, with a 20% jump over Oppenheimer's opening despite.
Nolan's star power has increased over the years, as per official details,The Odyssey played on 8,413 shows against Oppenheimer's 5,565, a jump of more than 50%.
About the Odyssey
The movie is adapted from Homer's 2800 year old Greek epic poem. The movie's cast includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal.
The movie received a 96% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and globally, the film has also been on a record-setting run, with North American previews of $17.6 million which is reportedly the best preview gross for any live-action release in 2026.
