Tomato Prices Are On The Rise In India: Prices In Mumbai Go Up To Rs. 80/kg

After several steps have been taken to bring down and control surging inflation, tomato, a cooking essential item, is seeing a rise in price.

As per data compiled by the food ministry as mentioned in the dailies report, the average retail price of tomatoes has jumped 70% from a month earlier and 168% from a year earlier to Rs. 53.75 per kg.

The price of food items have surged immensely and have led the inflation to hit 8-year high in April thus putting significant pressure on household budgets.

Further as specified in a leading dailies currently there is scarcity of the vegetable and supplies from the old crop are faltering and it shall take at least 3 months time for the new crop to arrive. The price for which tomatoes are currently sold in Mumbai is Rs. 80 as against a two month ago price of Rs. 50 per kg.

Also, there are reports that because of excessive heat and resultant low production of mango, mango prices in some cities have also soared.
